Areas of Responsibility:
· Safety First – the safe movement of persons from one location to another must be foremost in the mind of the driver
· Driver must have a positive and sensitive attitude toward disabilities, cannot be afraid, embarrassed, or otherwise unwilling to interact or communicate with riders
· Responsible for the safety and well being of all riders
· Must be willing to learn about disabilities through sensitivity training and other exposure offered on the job
· Be able to recognize the need for medical help should an emergency occur while transporting consumers
· Drive Center’s bus only for transporting consumers to and from Center and all Center related activities
· Related Center activities include picking up or dropping off mail at the post office, performing needed errands including going to the bank, delivery to other offices, picking up supplies from companies which do not deliver, etc.
· Responsible for regular maintenance and general up-keep of the Center’s bus; regularly check oil, brake fluid, etc. to reduce need for emergencies related to general maintenance
· Be physically able to assist persons on and off the bus as needed
· Report to office any accident or incident which may occur on the bus or which may involve the bus
· In the event of an accident, be sure the police are called
· Responsible for maintaining a daily log of miles travelled and Monthly summary which must be turned in to supervisor monthly
· Be willing to assist with needs of the Center as they relate to general maintenance, “handy-man” type chores: (ex. Changing light bulbs, cleaning, adjusting wheelchairs and other related Center needs)
· Must refrain from using the Center’s vehicle to conduct personal errands
· Must not pick up family members or friends in the Center’s vehicle
Qualifications:
· Must have a valid USVI driver's license and good traffic record and insurable
· Must have a good understanding of automative mechanics and vehicle maintenance
· Must have some exposure to disabilities and understand safety measures involved in transporting persons with severe disabilities
· Must be physically able to assist persons on and off the vehicle as needed
